This corresponds to 59.94 Hz (interlaced - half-images) or 59.94 fields/s respectively which can be derived from the NTSC 2:3-Pulldown based on 23.976 fps of NTSC films. The refresh rate is 29.97 Hz or 29.97 fps respectively. The common NTSC color subcarrier system is also called "NTSC M" or "NTSC 3.58". The color subcarrier has a frequency of approx. NTSC altogether uses 525 scan lines, thereof approx. This format is used particularly in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Japan. A motion picture film mostly is somewhat faster played whereby the frame rate can be located between 24 fps and 26 fps.Ģ.1 NTSC ( National Television System Committee) Measuring the run time completely from the beginning to the end we will find out that the playing speed in the cinema usually varies from 24 fps. We can call a frame rate of 24 fps (respective 48 Hz/72 Hz) the nominal cinema speed. Hz = Hertz = 1/s (1/sec) - "Hz" means in our case "pictures per second". Hence, the cinema picture is noticed to be fluent and without any flickering. With the double or triple refresh rate of 48 Hz or 72 Hz the human eye does not notice these black time intervals any longer. At 24 black time intervals per second we would notice a clear flickering. The canvas has to become black for a very short time between the film frames. For the intermittence a rotary shutter is responsible which is installed between source of light and film strip.įor us not noticing the movement of the film strip on the film reel In this moment the image will be shined through either twice or thrice - depending on the projector.

In old movie projectors the Maltese cross drive (which is in new models substituted with a step motor) is used to pause the film strip in front of the film gate for a short moment thus the projection of the image can happen. However, in the cinema the film is not played with 24 Hz. The film has a frame rate of 24 frames per second.

Motion picture films are shot in 24 fps (frames per second - full-images - progressive) usually on 35 mm film material.

If "Content Quality" is "Excellent" or "Identical to Original", then the size bar will turn green. The size bar (orange in the first screenshot below, green in the second screenshot) shows how much space will be left on the output disc (the first screenshot below shows no space is left and that all 4428 MB on the disc will be occupied, the second screenshot shows a little bit of space left on the 8147 MB blank). The content quality could range from "Good" to "Excellent" or even "Identical to Original". But even a compressed disc will still look acceptable on all but the largest screens. To truly make a 1:1 copy, you will need to use dual-layer blanks.

The more compression, the lower the quality. Since most DVDs are DVD-9 (usually around 8 GBs) and single layer blanks have just over 4 GBs, Video Copy & Convert will actually compress the original DVD to make it fit, which will affect picture quality. The "Content Quality" rating shows what the estimated finally quality will be like for the current copy.

The options are single layer DVD+/- blanks, dual layer blanks, DVD-RAM or specify a custom size. This option allows you to set what kind of media you are going to make the copy on. On the bottom of the main Video Copy & Convert screen, you should see a size bar and an option to select the media type.
